God Is Good All The Time!
You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees. Psalm 119:68 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Psalm 119:68 says that God is good and He does good. In the same way, I John 4:8 says that God is love. The Lord is good; He has no evil in Him. God is incapable of doing evil. Goodness is an extension of who God is. When we see good in our lives, we are seeing God at work. Good means kind; it is the opposite of evil or bad. It is wholesome, full, complete, pleasant, and admirable, just to name a few attributes of goodness.
There are simply not enough words to describe how good God is, so God lets us epxperience His goodness daily. When we experience peace, love, joy, provision, protection, favor, wisdom, and so on, we are tasting God’s goodness. As we experience His goodness, we know the Lord’s goodness for ourselves- it becomes real in our lives.
O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34:8 (KJV)
Because God is good, when we trust Him, He will work things out for our good (Romans 8:28). When bad things happen to good people (because we live in a fallen world with a bad devil, demons, and unsaved people), God in His goodness is working to make something good come out of it.
The Bible says over and over that God is good. We can expect the goodness of the Lord in our lives. as a matter of fact, Psalm 23:6 says His goodness follows us all our days. It always shows up at just the right time. According to Jeremiah 29:11, God has a good plan for you and God’s plans are good. Psalm 65:11 says that God crowns the year with His goodness.
God is even good to evil people because He is merciful, and also because He is blessing the righteous and some of it gets on the unbeliever.
The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. Psalm 145:9 (KJV)
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45 (KJV)
God’s character, His nature, is good- it’s Who He is. The devil on the other hand, is bad. There is no goodness and no truth in him. Always remember this simple principle whenever bad things happen, so you know who is really to blame.
Look for God’s goodness showing up in your life- in both the small and big things. Just as the dawn comes every day, so will God’s goodness come your way!
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Psalm 31:19 (KJV)
