Selah: Hit the Pause Button

Selah: Hit the Pause Button

In yesterday’s post, Janean explained that selah is a musical term, a pause, or a rest. It is a pause for the purpose of weighing or thinking about what the song is saying; a time of reflection to consider the message. We’re to pause and reflect on the Word, but we are also to pause in God’s presence- to listen, hear, and receive from the Lord.

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. Psalms 24:6 (KJV)

This verse is saying that as we seek God’s face, or His presence, we’re to be still and pause iin His presence. We pause for God to enjoy us, and for us to enjoy Him. As we worship, we’re to wait before the Lord, resting in Him so we can experience His presence and listen to His voice. When we take time to selah in His presence, we hear a word from the Lord, and we can meditate, reflect and ponder the Lord Himself and whatever He tells us. In these moments we can see Him in His beauty, loveliness, and glory.

God is saying, “Selah My presence.” In other words, “Don’t be so quick to rush out once you have come into My presence.” Take time to spend time with God, before His face. Don’t be anxious; His peace will come. If you’re hurting, receive healing from the Lord. Whatever you need- receive it, but first take time tp minister to the Lord from your heart. Then, God will release to you what is in His heart and in His hand.

All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah. Psalms 66:4 (KJV)

In His presence, we worship. Worship is our response to Him and His presence. As we selah in His presence, God will birth new worship in us; new songs to sing to Jesus.

It is easy to receive from the Holy Spirit as we selah, as we pause and calmly think upon the Lord and His Word. We meditate and ponder what He is saying to us, and as we do, we will also begin to see God as He is and receive fresh revelation of Him. Selah is taking time to know the Lord more and more.

“Be still, be calm, see, and understand I am the True God. I am honored among all the nations. I am honored over all the earth.” Psalms 46:10 (The Voice, VOICE)

Selah is being still and knowing that God is God.
