God Bless or Good Luck?
“God bless” or “Good luck”- what’s the difference? Actually, there’s a big difference. There’s a difference in inspiration and result because each one has a radically different source.
When we say “God bless you,” we’re getting God involved. We are invoking the blessing of the Lord on someone. We’re proclaiming, “God be with you and on you to give you favor and success.”
When we say “Good luck,” which is not biblically-based in any way, we’re giving place to the devil, or lucifer. It has been said that the word luck is derived from the name lucifer. Whether that is the actual source of the word is not clear, but it can be no coincidence that the two words sound so similar. Luck attributes a person’s success to chance or to something other than God. The devil is anything but good and he is out to do us evil, so we do not need to go to him try to gain success. Partnership with him always carries a high cost. He is a deceiver- there is no such thing as luck; only good or evil.
On the other hand, we know that God is good. Is it coincidence that the name God is similar to the word good? I think not. God is good indeed. His blessing always brings promotion, favor, and everything good.
The more we acknowledge the devil and what he does, we are giving him place, or access into our lives. And when we acknowledge God and what He does, we give Him place or access into our lives. Which one do we want? I think the answer is clear. We reject the false idea of luck and receive God’s blessing.
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22 (KJV)
Therefore, I say to you, “God bless you, and have a good day!”
