Don't Ignore The Nudge

Recently, I felt a nudge to go to online and check on our finances. I’m glad I did because I forgot about a recent expense and needed to move funds around in order to cover some upcoming automatic payments. If I had ignored the nudge, there may have been insufficient funds in the proper account. The Holy Spirit’s prompting protected us from a financial mishap. How many times have we been protected by the holy “nudge” of God? And on the other hand, how many times have we resisted that nudge and regretted it later?

But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I John 2:20 (KJV)

The Holy Spirit has been sent to us not just to give us chills and goosebumps during worship. He is our Guide. He leads and directs us and keeps us from harm by His leadership. He knows the best way for us to go. He guides us in the most profitable and safest path for our lives and callings. But He is not One to lead us by using a megaphone. His promptings are gentle and we must remain sensitive to Him to be led by Him. Every single day, He is sending us signals and giving us input about decisions and actions to take. We have a choice whether to heed the inner promptings of the Spirit or to shrug them off. When we have an inner sense about something, we should not assume it is just our imagination. When we feel a gentle inner prompting, we need to ask the Holy Spirit if there is something He is trying to tell us or show us. God won’t hold out on us- He’ll tell us what we need to know when we decide to listen to Him.

Often, we’ve listened to the nudge of the Lord without even really knowing what we were doing. How many times when leaving the house have we felt the need to go back inside and check on something- maybe to find a curling iron plugged in or some other hazardous situation? How many times have we felt the “desire” to take an alternate route home from work, only to find out later that there was a wreck on our normal route at the time we would have been traveling there? And how many other times have we heeded the Holy Spirit’s guidance and been protected from all kinds of calamity without even knowing it?

No, my friend, it is not good to ingore the Holy Spirit. When you feel an uneasy feeling or an inner sense that you need to do a certain thing, don’t just consider it the effects of the pizza you had for dinner- follow up on it. The Holy Spirit is our Leader, but He won’t hit us over the head to get us to pay attention. Instead, we must pay attention to our inner man and follow the Leader by heeding those inner promptings. Let Him guide you, and don’t ignore the nudge.
