The Curse and Death Are No More

Therefore, as sin came into the world through one man, and death as the result of sin…. Romans 5:12 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

This verse tells us that sin brought death into the earth.

And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return. Genesis 3:17-19 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

This verse tells us that sin brought the curse. Could it be that death and the curse are related? Could it be that they are so closely and tightly intertwined that they are almost one and the same? Everywhere you find sin, you find the curse. And where you find the curse, you find death. They are the siamese twins of sin.

When the curse is in operation, the result is death. The ground was cursed as a result of Adam’s sin. Weeds and thistles all spring up to choke out the good plants, attempting to deprive them of life. That is death; the curse in action. The curse and death are always together. Without the curse, there is no death, because without sin, there is no curse.

Well, that sounds pretty depressing, doesn’t it? But there is good news- very good news. Jesus came and redeemed us from the curse. We now walk in the blessing, which means no curse and no death. We live in the light of life.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 (NKJV)

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28 (NKJV)

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” I Corinthians 15:55 (New International Version, NIV)

Life trumps death. The blessing trumps the curse. Jesus came to pull us out of the kingdom of darkness, death and the curse, and He gave us abundant life in His kingdom. We now live under the blessing of God that was bestowed on Adam. Everywhere we go, we take the blessing- and life. Just as the curse produces death, the blessing produces life. This means that the curse has been abolished in our lives and death has no more power over us. Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus!
