Power Surge

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31 (New International Version, NIV)

Have you ever been what they used to call “bone tired?” I mean, so tired that even breathing seemed like a chore? I’m sure we all have been at the point of sheer exhaustion. When we feel we have no strength and we don’t know how to go on, what do we do? I mean, we don’t always have the ability to take an instant nap- after all most of us work and have responsibilities. I doubt the boss would be thrilled to catch you dozing on the job!

If we can’t grab fifty winks, then how can we get a boost of energy? Isaiah was definitely on to something when he said that God gives strength to the weary. He stated that hoping in the Lord renews our strength. Sometimes our fatigue comes from more than physical tiredness- sometimes it is a combination of physical, mental, and emotional strains. Hoping in the Lord is the best way to address them. The King James calls it waiting on the Lord. It involves time spent with God as the center of attention, focusing on Him and His goodness.

As we meditate on the goodness of the Lord, we feel the energy return. Hope is renewed and we regain our strength. It almost seems too simple to be true, but just turning our attention towards God can bring us a supernatural power surge- a burst of energy to help us do whatever we have to do. The reason is because when we turn our eyes upon Jesus, we turn them away from ourselves. Fatigue only gets worse when you focus on it. However, it reduces when you look to God, Who has boundless energy and in His goodness wants to share it with us.

God is life. That means life is dwelling inside of us. As we turn towards Him, we draw from His infinite supply of power and energy that is already residing in us. We can take a quick moment or two during the day to direct our attention to the Lord, even at work.

Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Matthew 11:28 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

Hope in the Lord. Focus on Him. Find rest and refreshing in His presence. Draw from His strength. When you do, you’ll find that a power surge is on the way!
