Wisdom Has Benefits

Wisdom comes from God, and it is obtained by studying and applying God’s truths. Wisdom is knowing God and following Him. It helps us to know what to do, and when and how to do it- or not to do anything at all. I Corinthians 1:30 says Christ is our wisdom that lives in us. As we listen to the Lord, He will speak wisdom to us, showing us how to live life and allowing us to see life from God’s view. James 1:5 tells us that we should ask God for wisdom, and He’ll give it to us.

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5 (KJV)

This passage gives us the recipe for obtaining wisdom. Frist, receive God’s Word, then hear it. Next, cry out to God for wisdom- seek and search for it. Then you will find and receive wisdom.

Proverbs is called the Book of Wisdom by many. Let’s explore some verses from Proverbs 2 to understand the benefits of wisdom.

  • Proverbs 2:8-9 tells us wisdom will cause us to walk in good paths.

  • Proverbs 2:10-11 says that wisdom will protect us.

  • Proverbs 2:12-15 states that wisdom will deliver us from crooked paths and wicked men.

  • Proverbs 2:16-19 tells us that wisdom will deliver us from worldly, immoral women.

  • Proverbs 2:20-21 says that wisdom will cause us to walk in the way of good men and keep the paths of righteousness. It states that the upright will dwell in the land and the perfect (mature) shall remain in it.

  • Proverbs 2:22 tells us that the wicked will lose out.

Wisdom is a lifelong pursuit. As we pursue God, He will be our wisdom. As we study God’s Word, listen to His voice, and are led by His Spirit, we will walk in the ways of wisdom.

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. Proverbs 3:13 (KJV)
