Every Tongue...
One of the most quoted verses in the Bible is Isaiah 54:17.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
The Lord is speaking to us in this verse. He is saying that nothing that the enemy tries to use against us will work. He also tells us that we will show every accusation spoken against us to be in the wrong. He tells us that we will do this- we will condemn the wrong words used against us- not God. Let’s look at a few other translations of that verse to be sure.
“No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This [peace, righteousness, security, and triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And this is their vindication from Me,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And you will condemn every tongue that accuses you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 (New American Standard Bible NASB)
No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 (New International Version, NIV)
But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken! Isaiah 54:17 (New Living Translation, NLT)
But I promise you, no weapon meant to hurt you will succeed, and you will refute every accusing word spoken against you. This promise is the inheritance of Yahweh’s servants, and their vindication is from me,” says Yahweh. Isaiah 54:17 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
I think that sufficiently establishes that we are the ones condemning the words and accusations against us- not the Lord. What words are we to refute? The words of the devil. He is called the accuser of the brethren, and we know that whatever he says is a lie. Therefore, we refute the lies he is always trying to use against us. We do this by using the Word of God to come against those accusations. The only way to combat and overcome lies is with the truth.
So, when the devil accuses you, just speak the Word of God. When he says you are no good, tell him you are made in the image of God. When he says you are stupid, tell him you have the mind of Christ. When he lies about your future, tell him that God has a good plan for your life. You get the idea. Every lie of the enemy is easily overcome by speaking the Word of God. We have the authority to use the Word to silence the mouth of the devil- it is our inheritance as children of God.
