Celebrate Yourself

For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. Zephaniah 3:16 (New Living Translation, NLT)

After a period of glory, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me against the nations who plundered you. For he said, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession. Zechariah 2:8 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Did you know that God rejoices over you- so much so that He sings about you and over you? You bring Him joy and gladness. He sees you as His most precious possession. If God sees you in that way, why should you be down on yourself or see yourself in an unfavorable light?

To remind yourself that you are beloved by God, it is a good idea to celebrate yourself occasionally. And yes, it is good to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions, but I am telling you to pick other random days to celebrate who God made you to be.

Each of us is special to the Father, and He wants us to remember how much He loves and values us. Picking a day occasionally to treat ourselves to something special or do something to enjoy ourselves is one way we can bring to mind that God holds us dear to His heart.

Celebrating ourselves can be as simple or as complex as we want it to be. It can cost a lot or nothing. For some, a pedicure or some shopping may be a means to celebrate- or getting that new video game you’ve been waiting for. You may choose to go hiking to get close to nature and commune with God. You could just decide to take a luxurious bubble bath. Perhaps your celebration could be binge watching your favorite shows or movies. Maybe there’s a particular restaurant you’ve been wanting to try. There are a number of things you can do and it doesn’t have to break the bank.

No matter how you decide to celebrate, be sure to keep God at the center of it. He is the One who made you, gave you life, and set you apart for His glory. As you celebrate yourself, make sure to include your Creator who loves you more than life.
