Delivered From A Noisy Life

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

The Bible tells us that God will give us peaceful and quiet dwelling places and that a meek and quiet spirit is of great price in the sight of God. Jesus said “My peace I leave you; my peace I give unto you.” Peaceful living is a big deal.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Psalm 40:2 (KJV)

Did you know that in this verse the Hebrew actually says He brought us up out of a pit of noise? God doesn’t want us to live noisy lives. Noise causes upset, distraction and steals our peace. It prevents us from hearing God, where we don’t take time to think and listen, to get away from the rat race. God does not want our lives to be so busy and noisy that we can’t know Him, hear Him, feel Him or receive from Him.

God wants us to come aside from the crowds and the noise and rest from work and care for a time. Even when we do have things we need to do, God will give us peace in our souls, rest in our spirits, and strength in our bodies. He wants us to do what we have to do in peace, not in disruption and distraction.

The Lord wants us to take the time to sit at His feet, listen to His Word, be in His presence, be refined by His Spirit, worship Him, and let Him love on us. He longs to touch us, hold us, and let us know we are His and He is ours. He wants us to leave the noisy world and come to His presence, His sanctuary, where we can commune with Him and be refreshed. As we seek and wait on God, we will experience a quiet place that is only found in Him, where our lives are not noisy, but peaceful, meaningful, and we’re happy in Jesus.

And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Isaiah 32:17-18 (KJV)
