The River
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. Psalm 46:4 (New International Version, NIV)
In the natural there is currently no such river in Jerusalem, therefore this speaks of a future time, when a river will flow forth from the temple- from the throne of Christ during the millenium and from God’s throne room in eternity. However, for us here and now, this can also refer to a river of God that flows forth from believers who are filled with the Spirit of God.
Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. John 7:38 (New International Version, NIV)
Just as Psalm 46:4 notes, the river comes forth from the place where the Most High dwells, which is in our spirit. We are the temple, the dwelling place, of God. As we release our heavenly language, given by the Holy Spirit, or tongues, the river begins to flow forth from us. This flow is the flow of the Holy Ghost. It leads, and directs us in how we should go. As we allow the river of God to flow and to carry us where He desires, we receive joy- His joy. The river is ever-moving, bringing the anointing and power of God on the scene. It fills us with strength and power. It releases the supernatural into the natural realm. It brings forth the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It guides us into all God has for us. When we release the flow of the Holy Spirit and learn to follow it, church services become supercharged with the divine. And our lives become a continuation of the book of Acts.
The river of the Holy Spirit is a powerful, life-giving force- and its streams make us glad. Speak your heavenly language and let the river flow today!
