A Flicker or A Blaze?

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. II Timothy 1:6 (KJV)

The things God has placed in you, He will use. The gifts He depositis in us are compared to fire. A fire can flicker and die out, but if the embers are stirred up, the fire can come back. We must fan the fire into a flame. Don’t let the fire go out. Stir up those embers through prayer, study of God’s Word, worship, and seeking God again to encounter and experience Him anew. When we rekindle the fire, God can touch us in a fresh way as we learn to wait and listen in His presence.

The gifts in us are like fire and we must fan them and stir them up if they have grown cold. Awake the gift, excite the gift, that is in you. Don’t let it sit idle and dormant. Let God draw it out of you and use it.

Time is the key. The time we spend waiting on the Lord to use the gift can either be beneficial or detrimental. We can allow the fire to go out and let the passage of time rob us of the gift, or we can use that time to make the flame burn ever brighter by adding fuel to the fire. The fuel we add is the Word and developing what has been placed in us. By preparing, we are ready when our time comes to use the gift.

As we stir up and use what is in us, the giftings will become stronger. Our flame and passion for God will burn brighter, and we will be on fire for God as He uses us for His glory.
