The Word of Faith
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:8-10 (KJV) emphasis mine
This passage references the Word of faith being in our hearts and mouths and confessing out loud the belief that Jesus is Lord. It is telling how we are saved.
The way we got saved and became a citizen of God’s kingdom is the same way we receive everything else from God. We believe what the Word says and we confess it with our mouths- declaring Christ’s Lordship over everything. Jesus is Lord by His Word- as we make it first place and final authority. The words saved, salvation, and save come from a Greek word that means salvation, deliverance, safety, health, prosperity, peace- it conveys the idea of wholeness in every area of life. That is what we receive from Him.
From this passage we can also glean a deeper meaning of the words believe, confess and Lord. Believe in the Greek means to trust in, have faith in, be fully convinced of, rely on, acknowledge. The word confess means to speak the same thing, to agree with, to confess, to declare. The word Lord means Master, Ruler, Owner, having power and authority, to rule, to master. As we believe, trust in and rely on Jesus as Lord, Master and Ruler, we speak the same thing He does; we agree with His Word. As we do this, we bring into manifestation all that Jesus has done for us and promised in Scripture.
When we face a need, whether it is healing, finances, direction, protection, or whatever, as we believe and speak God’s Word, we declare Jesus’ Lordship over the situation. Using the Word of God and the Name of Jesus, we enjoy all our benefits, covenant promises, and rights. As we say what God says, we will have what God says.
What we believe and say has a great bearing on the quality of life we live. When we base our beliefs and our Word on God’s written Word, we have the guarantee of all of God’s promises.
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. I Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)
This is the Word of faith we preach, believe, receive and live by.
