The Powerful Blood

And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it…. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:7, 13 (KJV)

This passage is part of the account of the Exodus of the children of Israel from Egypt. The death angel went through Egypt and killed every firstborn male, EXCEPT those upon whose doorframe the blood of a lamb was applied. The blood protected the Israelites from harm.

Today, we have something much better than the blood of a lamb. We have the blood of Jesus which has been shed for us. He was the Lamb of God who was sacrificed, and we can apply it to the doorposts of our lives to protect us. The blood of Jesus protects, delivers, heals, and saves. As we plead the blood over our lives and situations, we can partake of the benefits of His blood.

What does it mean to plead the blood? Pleading the blood could also be called applying the blood, decreeing the blood, or even appropriating the blood. We use our words to receive the benefits of the blood of Jesus and apply it to our lives. When we say, “I am protected by the blood of Jesus,” we are pleading the blood over ourselves for divine protection. When we say, “The blood of Jesus has washed me clean,” we are declaring our salvation and righteousness based on the blood that Jesus shed. Pleading the blood simply means we are receiving the benefits of the blood of Jesus Christ by faith with our words.

The blood of Jesus is life-giving, therefore, we can use the blood to create a barricade between ourselves and anything that is not life-giving. The bloodline that we draw around ourselves with our words is an impenetrable barrier that the forces of darkness cannot penetrate. The blood is our protection, and when we plead the blood, we are protected on every side.

In Him we have redemption [that is, our deliverance and salvation] through His blood, [which paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in] the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace. Ephesians 1:7 (Ampiified Bible, AMP)

The blood of Jesus is powerful. Nothing can cleanse, redeem, protect, and pardon like the blood of Jesus Christ. Take advantage of what it has provided you today. Plead it over your life, your family, your city, your nation, and everything that concerns you. There is nothing that can stand against the blood of our Lord.
