A Christian World View

And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. Romans 12:2 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

We hear the term Christian world view mentioned frequently in Christian circles. What does it mean to have a Christian world view?

A Christian is to be transformed in his or her thinking by the Word of God to the extent that they view everything they encounter through the lens of biblical truth. When a child of God gets in the Word and the Word gets in them, they are changed in how they see everything. They view things the way that God does- and it includes every area of life and living. True believers are to live by the values of the Bible and they are to take that into every area of society to transform it to reflect the kingdom of God.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10 (KJV)

A child of God who has a Christian world view considers the earth to be an extension of heaven and they believe they are to bring heaven’s values and truths into this world. Someone with a Christian world view sees the things in the world that do not line up with the Word of God and seeks to correct them. They see things like abortion, poverty, sexual perversion, and oppression as being in direct opposition to the will of God because the Word of God says so, and they take steps to change the direction of the world to bring it into divine alignment.

To give you a clearer understanding of what it means to have a Christian world view, I am including Romans 12:1-2 in the Message. I don’t often use the Message since it is a paraphrased version of the Bible, but in this case, it helps us to see what it means to be transformed and what a Christian world view is about.

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 (The Message, MSG)

When we get to the point in our daily lives where we compare everything around us to God’s standard, we have a true Christian world view. That’s what God intends for us to have. When we do, the world around us can be changed dramatically for the better.
