The Blood Bubble
I am always aware of the protecting power of the blood of Jesus that covers me and keeps me from harm. It’s like a bubble that surrounds me and keeps destruction and harm away from me. For science fiction fans, think of it as a force field. As a born-again believer, you have that same assurance of divine protection in the blood- you just have to apply it to your life. It’s a part of the covenant between God and us.
So Moses took the blood [which had been placed in the large basins] and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.” Exodus 24:8 (Amplified Bible AMP)
Now may the God of peace [the source of serenity and spiritual well-being] who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood that sealed and ratified the eternal covenant, Hebrews 13:20 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
In the Old Testament, the covenant God made with Israel was ratified in the blood of animals and provided them a measure of blessing, which included protection, health, provision, and everything good, as long as they obeyed the law. The New Testament, or the better covenant, was made by the shedding of Jesus’ blood, which provides blessing to us as long as we choose to remain in Christ. It is not based on our performance, but on what Jesus has done.
A covenant in the East is different than the way we view a covenant, or a legal agreement, in the West. It involves two parties coming together in an agreement that binds them together for life by the shedding and mingling of their blood. In such a covenant, they agree to share what they have with one another. One party might be more prosperous and would commit to provide for the material needs of the other. The other party might be mighty warriors and would commit to protect the other party from harm. It is a merging of two into one in regards to all things. And even if they were not together in the same place, the covenant remained in effect.
The same is true of the covenant of which we are partakers . This time, it is not the blood of animals that has sealed it, but the eternal, powerful blood of Jesus. And that same blood provides whatever we need. God Himself is committed to giving us whatever we need because of the blood of Jesus. We are one with God because the blood of Jesus has given us access to Him and all He has.
But now [at this very moment] in Christ Jesus you who once were [so very] far away [from God] have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
This covenant is what gives us whatever we need through the shed blood of Jesus. In covenants between men in the Old Testament, each person shed their own blood and mingled it with the other person’s blood. They usually rubbed dirt in their wounds in order to create a scar, a lasting mark showing that blood had been shed in covenant. All they had to do was show the scar to show evidence of the covenant. It told any enemy who would seek to do them harm that they were in covenant with another party, and if they wanted to harm them, they would be coming against their covenant partner as well.
Today, all we need to do is to appropriate the blood of Jesus. When we apply the blood to our lives by the words of our mouths, we are showing the evidence of the covenant. When we do, the blood that covers us keeps us from harm, gives us healing, and makes sure our needs are met. Because of the covenant made in the blood of Jesus Christ, we live in a bubble- a blood bubble!
