Supernatural Rest: A Benefit of Tongues
For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. Isaiah 28:11-12 (KJV)
In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. I Corinthians 14:21 (KJV)
These Scriptures teach us that when we pray in tongues, such as they did in Acts 2:4 or I Corinthians 14:21, we find supernatural rest. It brings the rest of God and refreshing of the spirit, soul, and body of man.
Paul was actually quoting Isaiah when he wrote I Corinthians 14:21 and he expounded on on speaking in tongues in verses 1-22 of that chapter. The chapter tells us how tongues works and how it benefits us for private and public use. One such benefit is that it gives us a supernatural rest and refreshing when we pray in tongues. It builds faith. It builds us up spiritually and causes us to be at rest from stress, worry, struggles, etc.
Tongues is one way we find rest and refreshing from God. It is interesting that Isaiah prophesied of tongues and Paul quoted him to refer to its fulfillment. Each and every time we pray in tongues, this Scripture is being fulfilled in and through us.
