Be The One
And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. Ezekiel 22:30 (English Standard Version, ESV)
God seeks for someone to build up a wall; a wall of protection to keep evil out and to protect good. A wall is usually considered to be something that protects. A wall can also stand for a border, boundaries, or as a statement that says “no further- not on my watch.” It can be a wall of resistance against evil and sin.
This verse speaks of standing in the breach, or the gap. As we pray and stand for righteousness, we fill voids so that evil cannot take up residence and rule. We also stand in the gap when we pray for others, that they will be saved, healed, delivered and provided for.
It only takes one person to stand. One person can make a tremendous difference in building up the wall and standing in the breach. Throughout Scriptures there are many examples of individuals who made a difference by their actions. Elijah’s prayers made a difference. It did not rain until he prayed. Jesus’ life made a difference. He died for all mankind. Paul’s ministry made a difference. Through his writings we have a clearer understanding of salvation and what it means to be a Christian. One person can do a lot.
God looks for one person. Be the one who makes a difference. You can pray and keep back God’s judgment, giving people more time to repent. You can be the voice to lead people to Jesus. You can be the hands of God to the needy and hurting. On person is enough. God only needs one person to partner with Him to accomplish much. In Ezekiel, God was looking for just one person and He found none. Today, be the one that God finds to build up a wall and stand in the breach. Each of us can make a difference if we will commit to being the one.
