Peace of Heart
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (New Living Translation, NLT)
So many people want what they call peace of mind. They are looking for rest from the troubles and stresses that plague them. Mankind on its own is unable to escape from the troubling thoughts that bombard the mind. Agitation and anxiety abound. What most people don’t understand is that they are really looking for peace of heart rather than peace of mind.
Man needs to gain peace in his heart before he can experience the peace of mind he seeks. By the heart I am referring to the spirit of man. Unsaved man has a dormant or you might even say dead, spirit, He is operating out of his soul and flesh. His five senses and his emotions rule him and he tries to manage life through his mind and will. True peace is never obtainable this way. To gain real peace, one must have their spirit resurrected and the Prince of Peace residing in their heart.
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
The Old Testament word for peace is shalom in the Hebrew and in the New Testament it is eirene in Greek. Both words refer to more than just an absence of anxiety or fear. It refers to wholeness in every area of life: physical health, financial prosperity, soundness of mind, rest in the emotions- everything that is needed for abundant life. The only way to get that is to have the Prince of Peace take up residence in your heart.
At salvation, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, comes to live in our hearts and resurrects our spirits. When He is in our hearts, perfect peace is ours. We can’t calm our minds through yoga, aroma therapy or any other means. Perfect peace only comes from the Prince of Peace. Only by trusting in Him can we experience peace in our minds, wills, emotions, bodies, and relationships.
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Once the Prince of Peace lives in your heart, you can tap into that peace at any time by simply focusing your thoughts on Him. We can have peace of mind by having peace of heart. Let Peace live in you and you will live in peace.
