Stop Trying to Pay a Debt That's Been Paid

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30 (KJV) emphasis mine

Before Jesus died, as He hung on the cross, He cried out “It is finished.” In Greek, this statement actually means “paid in full.” Jesus paid for all our sins; a debt we could never pay. No matter what you do or don’t do, you cannot pay for your sins. Just receive the payment that was made for you. Your sin debt has been freely and fully paid.

We have to stop trying to pay for our own sins. We must stop beating ourselves up for past sins, failures, and mistakes. We’ve all sinned, but once we confessed and forsook our sins and accepted Jesus’ forgiveness, that’s when our sin debt was marked “paid in full.” At that point, we no longer had to concern ourselves with payment for our sins.

Don’t you allow people or the devil and his demons to condemn you, guilt you, or belittle you for that which God has taken away from you and forgiven you. True, in does have consequences in the natural, and some things we cannot change, but don’t let it steal the forgiveness and freedom that Jesus has already purchased for you.

The price has been paid in full, so stop trying to pay a debt that’s already been paid. The sin debt has been erased. There is no record of your sin with God. You don’t have to pay for something for the rest of your life because Jesus has paid for it. You are free. Don’t live your life under the weight of something that has already been lifted off of you.

Jesus said, “It is finished,” so let’s be finished with past sins once and for all. Stop trying to pay for it. Tell the accusing voices to shut up, leave you alone, and never bother you again, in Jesus’ name!

Renew your mind to who Christ is. He’s your Kinsman Redeemer. He bought you back, and He paid for you with His own life and blood. Now, the Lord looks at us through the lens of the finished work of the cross. Attempting to pay for your sins on your own means that you do not believe the blood of Jesus has the power to make you clean and remove your sins. Do not make the cross of Christ of no effect in your life- receive the blood payment of Jesus and walk free.

Jesus sees us clean, forgiven, and free, with no sins, past, present or future, on our account. Jesus settled the account so there’s no debt to pay. It’s been paid in full. If Jesus said that it is finished, then it is finished. It is settled in heaven, now settle it in your heart and mind, And go and live your life blessed, happy, and free.
