Money Isn't Everything
Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 5:18-19 (KJV)
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
Happiness is more important than money. King Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes that it is a gift of God for us to enjoy our work. But, how many of us work at a job simply because the pay is good? If you’re in a job that you don’t like but it pays good, then that good thing can actually be a bad thing. If you aren’t happy doing it, then stay there only until you find something better suited to you. I understand you have bills to pay, but God can provide a job you like that will benefit you financially. I’m not telling you to quit your job without another one to go to, but seek God about moving on to something new, and He will lead you.
Does your job interfere with your relationship with God, or does it support it? If your employment keeps you from God, you need to seriously evaluate whether it is a job worth keeping. We need to put God above material things. When we keep God first place, He will give us those material things we need. When we make God our priority, He will place us in jobs we enjoy and that allow us to worship Him.
When we make a decision, such as choices regarding our career, healthcare provider, friendships, and so forth, we must first ask ourselves if we are pleased with the ones we have. If not, we need to ask God what to do. If He prompts us to seek out new ones, we must allow Him to guide us to the right ones. He will show us what we need to know, like where to live, what school to go to, what projects to take on, the people to get close to, etc.
God wants us to be happy, and He wants us to be happy in Him. We don’t have to sacrifice our happiness to get more money or to save money. God wants to supply our every need and fulfill our desires, so money is not a bad thing. However, we should never prioritize money over our contentment, satisfaction, peace, and happiness. God wants us to have both happiness and finances. Our joy comes from God, so our relationship with Him is always supposed to be more important than anything, including money. Seek God for happiness and He will give you whatever you need.
