God's Protective Presence
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:4 (New International Version, NIV)
Psalm 91 speaks of God’s protective presence. As we stay close to God, He will cover us with His feathers. This is a metaphor, or a word picture. A mother bird protects her babies from harm by shielding them with her wings. When all we see is the storm, we must look away and put our eyes on God. God spreads His wings of protection over us. There is healing in His wings, according to the Bible, so we see that there is protection and healing in God.
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” Luke 13:34-35 (New International Version, NIV)
This was Jesus speaking. Don’t reject who God sends to you. They are for your protection.
Jesus longs to gather us under His wings of safety, but if we’re not willing we’ll be left unprotected and with nothing after the storm has passed.
Get under God’s protective care as the storm rolls on. When the storm has passed, you’ll see that you were kept safe because you stayed under His wings. Get in and remain in God’s protective presence.
