The Blood and A Modern Day Passover
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it…. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:5-7, 13 (NKJV)
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 (NKJV)
These verses from Exodus tell of the event of Passover, when the death angel passed through the land of Egypt in judgment, killing all the firstborn males of every household. Those who took the blood of a spotless lamb and applied it to the door frame of their homes were protected. The Passover lamb is a type and shadow of Jesus, the spotless, sinless, Lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world.
Today, we can rely on the blood of Jesus for protection. We do not have to physically apply blood to our homes, but we do need to apply it spiritually to our lives. The first way is by receiving Jesus as our Savior and Lord. When we do, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from sin, covers us, and keeps us until the day we go to be with the Lord. The second way we apply the blood is by verbally applying it to ourselves and our circumstances.
The enemy cannot penetrate the blood of Jesus to cause us harm. When we apply the blood to our lives and stay with Christ, we are safe. The devil hates the blood of Jesus. The blood was shed to pay the price for mankind and now stands as a barrier to protect us.
The world is in serious trouble these days. Danger is present on every side and many people fear what might happen. Believers do not have to fear. We can apply the blood and be secure in its protection against violence, death, or harm of any kind. The blood is a shield and provides a place of safety for the child of God. We are about to experience our own Passover event. I am not talking about the Jewish Passover feast that is celebrated every year. I am speaking of an actual, physical event in which great danger and death will pervade the earth, especially the United States. When it happens, just apply the blood of Jesus and know you are protected from the plans of the wicked. The death angel will pass over you.
To apply the blood, simply speak it out of your mouth. “I apply the blood of Jesus to my life, my family, my property. No harm will come to me or mine because we trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ.” You can even rebuke the devil, “The blood of Jesus is against you, satan. I rebuke you and all your plans to steal, kill, and destroy, in Jesus’ name!”
When believers apply the blood, they are safe and secure in the loving protection of Almighty God.
