Unlimited God, Infinite Love

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:16-21 (New International Version, NIV)

There’s no limit to God. He can’t be measured. He is eternal, yet He can be known. This passage speaks of how wide, long, high, and deep the love of Christ is. According to I John 4:8, God is love and John 1 tells us that Jesus Christ is God. So, we can deduct that Jesus is love. God and Jesus and love are interchangeable. He is limitless and His love has no bounds.

Our passage from Ephesians gives us some insight into God’ and His love. The ocean is very deep, but God’s love is deeper. The sky is high, but God’s love is higher still. He is the Most High, meaning that absolutely no one is higher than Him; He is above all. From East to West is a long distance- they never meet. However, God’s love is longer still. There is no end to God. The Earth is wide, but God and His love are wider. He can wrap His loving arms around it all and still hold everything in His hand.

God is infinite. He has no end or beginning. He is unlimited in time or space; endless, immeasurable, and inconceivably great. He is inexhaustible and He has no limitations. To be honest, we can’t totally grasp His limitlessness except by revelation. Line upon line, God’s written Word reveals these concepts by His Spirit.

God is eternal. For example, The words that God spoke to create the worlds are still going forth at the speed of light. They are still creating. This is why the universe is expanding. God is light and He is the Word. His Word is light and it goes forth as light at the speed of light. And it will keep on going.

All God does is an extension of who He is- Love. His love is deeper than our hurt, so he reaches us in our pain and heals us. God is higher than anything or anyone, therefore, He cannot be stopped from reaching us. He is longer and can reach us where we are. His love is wider and His love surrounds us. He can love us through anything.

By revelation and experience, we can learn and know God and how much He loves us.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. He is more than enough. As we seek, we find. The more we seek God, the more of Him we find. He is endless and we will get to spend all eternity learning more and more about Him and exploring the depths of who He is. Let God love you- His love is inexhaustible so you’ll never use it all up. His love for you lasts forever because He lasts forever.
