40 Days

And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them…. Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it. Jonah 3:4-5, 10 (NKJV)

An eclipse is scheduled to happen today and will pass across this nation, starting at Texas and moving Northeast. The path of the eclipse will cross seven cities named Nineveh, eight if you count a Canadian city called Nineveh. In looking at the account of Nineveh, the number 40 stood out to me. They were given 40 days to repent of their wickedness. According to historical and scientific information, a solar eclipse occurred when Jonah visited Nineveh, which may be one reason the wicked Ninevites chose to repent.

But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness. And your sons shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years, and bear the brunt of your infidelity, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness. According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, for each day you shall bear your guilt one year, namely forty years, and you shall know My rejection. Numbers 14:32-24 (NKJV)

Let’s consider this number 40 for a moment. Biblically, it typically refers to some sort of judgment or it can refer to a time of being tried. For example, in the flood of Noah, it rained for 40 days and nights. That was judgment. The children of Israel wondered in the wilderness 40 years, which was a time when they were tried and judged. And, as I have shown, the city of Nineveh was given 40 days to repent or be destroyed as a judgment for their wickedness.

So, what date would we arrive at if we were to count 40 days from today’s eclipse? I was amazed when I found that it brings us to May 18. What is so significant about May 18? On the calendar, it is listed as being the day before Pentecost. And Jewish holidays begin at sundown on the previous day, meaning Pentecost will start the evening of May 18! Wow. I cannot believe that it’s just some coincidence that today’s eclipse that has ties to Jonah and Nineveh is followed by Pentecost 40 days later.

What do I think will happen? I honestly do not know. But I do believe that the wicked leaders of this nation and the world have reached, or are very close to, the end of the grace period that they’ve been given to repent of their evil. Pentecost may mark the end of that period. Passover will be on April 22, which is also a significant day of judgment against evil. All I can say is that we are in a period of people being tried and judged. Wicked people in every sector of society have very little time left.

Also keep in mind that the Holy Spirit came in power on Pentecost. We have been looking forward to a time of God’s glory covering the earth. Could we see something related to this on Pentecost this year: May 18 and 19? Perhaps we will see it begin to manifest at that time.

Keep your heart right before the Lord. Trust Him and rest in Him. And watch for significant things to happen in the days leading up to Pentecost, knowing that He has you covered and that His wrath is not meant for His children.
