When God Tears Things
Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. Mark 1:10 (New International Version, NIV)
Jesus was baptized in water and God tore the heavens open to send the Holy Spirit upon Jesus like a dove. When God tore open the heavens, He was acting from heaven to earth, making a way for His Spirit to come down to Jesus. This was an open heaven event, where God accessed earth and man had access to God and heaven. God empowered Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power to start and fulfill His ministry. God had access to work through a man.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split Matthew 27:51 (New International Version, NIV)
When Jesus Christ died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn from the top to the bottom, indicating it was not done by the hand of man, but by the hand of God. God tore the veil that separated God and man. Now that God has torn the veil because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, man has free, continual access to God. We now have an open heaven to know and fellowship with God.
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1-4 (New International Version, NIV)
Just as God tore the heavens and the veil of the temple, and man saw these things, God now gives us revelation by the Word and His Spirit to see and experience the things of God over and over. One such experience was on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came on the disciples. We can have a new experience with God daily. As He fills us with the Holy Spirit, God will tear the veil away from our spiritual eyes to see revelation out of God’s written Word. It reveals Christ, the Living Word to our hearts. As God opens the eyes of our hearts, we can see Jesus again and again with new understanding and insight.
Regardless of what might stand in the way of your progress, ask God to tear the veil so you can move on with God. He will do it over and over again as you ask and as you progress in Him.
