Jubilee: Our 250th Year
“In addition, you must count off seven Sabbath years, seven sets of seven years, adding up to forty-nine years in all. Then on the Day of Atonement in the fiftieth year, blow the ram’s horn loud and long throughout the land. Set this year apart as holy, a time to proclaim freedom throughout the land for all who live there. It will be a jubilee year for you, when each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors and return to your own clan. Leviticus 25:8-10 (New Living Translation, NLT)
On this July 4th, 2025, in the United States, today we are entering our 250th year. We just finished our 249th year and now this is the 250th year of our existence as a nation. It is a jubilee for us. Jubilee means debts are cancelled, property is restored, and freedom is given to those enslaved. We are about to experience this very thing for ourselves.
Our nation was dedicated to God by those who first came here. It was also dedicated to God when President George Washington was sworn in. Because of this, we have a covenant with the Lord, and He will honor His covenant to us. It is time to get excited and rejoice before the Lord. He is releasing us from bondage into a glorious time of revival and peace. Only God could do such a thing. As we celebrate our nation’s birthday and begin this year of jubilee, let’s keep in mind the prayer of George Washington as he asked God’s blessing upon us.
"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
Happy Independence Day to this United States of America, and let the jubilee begin!
