Give God Your Ordinary
A lot of life is made up of the ordinary, like going to work daily. It might seem like just another day, but when you do what you do unto God and not for man, you will eventually see God do extraordinary things in the midst of ordinary circumstances.. God takes our ordinary and infuses it with His supernatural power to produce something remarkable.
For example, if you’re faithful in your work, and you do it with excellence, God can do something extraordinary with it to promote you, increase your pay, bring recognition, etc. And when He does things to benefit you, it usually benefits others too.
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. He said, Bring them hither to me. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. Matthew 14:15-20 (KJV)
The little boy had just two fish and five loaves, but when this passage is translated more accurately, we see that it was more like two sardines and five crackers. It was just enough for the boy to have a snack. If we look at the numbers in this event, we see two, which represents unity, five which represents grace, and added together we have seven, which represents completion. When we get in unity with Jesus, His grace gives us complete provision. After everyone ate, they took up twelve baskets. Twelve represents God’s government, so this event demonstrated God’s Kingdom provision. What seemed ordinary and insignificant became extraordinary in the hands of the Master.
I recall going to an ordinary church event. I was actually reluctant to go. It was just an ordinary outing, but at that ordinary event I met my wife. God took something ordinary and turned it into something extraordinary. That ordinary event has led at this point to an extraordinary 28 years of marriage. And there will be many more. What a blessing from God! God definitely multiplies and increases our lives when we give Him our ordinary.
What you have now and what you are in the midst of may seem so ordinary. You may have gone through the same thing multiple times and it all seems so routine. But, put it in God’s hands and watch him work miracles for you. He’ll turn your ordinary into something extraordinary, transforming your routine life into a victorious adventure for His glory!
