Liberty to Enter His Presence
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22 (KJV)
We have liberty to come before God. The word boldness in the passage can also be translated liberty. We have liberty to enter the Holy of Holies, or the presence of God, by the blood of Jesus.
A new and living way speaks of Jesus’ sacrifice. Jesus offered His body on the cross as a sacrifice; the Lamb who was slain. Jesus cut a new covenant on the cross with His own blood. It is a better covenant with better promises, giving us a better way to come into God’s presence.
Jesus our High Priest, is over us. He made the way for mankind to come into God’s presence. So, draw near to God with a true heart. Now that we are born-again, we have full assurance of faith. Faith gives us the assurance that through Jesus we have the boldness and liberty to approach God. Jesus made us right with God and before God. We are righteous in Him.
Our hearts have been sprinkled from an evil conscience. Jesus’ blood washed us clean so there’s no more guilt. We don’t have to think of all the wrong we’ve done, but we can think on the fact that Christ has made us righteous. Our bodies are washed with God’s Word, and the blood of Jesus washed our sins away. God’s Word gives us a spiritual cleansing in our daily lives from living in this sinful world.
Now that Christ has set us free, we are given the liberty to come into God’s presence and know Him. We can fellowship with God and worship Him based on the relationship that was made possible by the shedding of Jesus’ blood. Because of Jesus, we have boldness and liberty to spend time in God’s presence.
