King and Kingdom First
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
We are to seek God’s kingdom. Seek means to aim at, go after, pursue, make it our desire and passion. Kingdom means the king’s rule and domain, where He has dominion. We are to first seek, pursue, and go after Gods’ kingdom, His rule and dominion. We are to enthrone Jesus in our hearts, letting Him rule us and call the shots.
This means that selfishness must be dethroned by saying no to what we want and saying yes to what Jesus wants. Jesus is only our King and Lord to the degree that we allow Him to be. We do this by obeying Him and living for Him and not for ourselves. Self always places oneself above Jesus and others. However, when we deny self and submit to the rulership of Jesus, we live for Him. As a result, we’ll live right, do right, and treat others right.
When we’re right with God, then can we do right. Righteousness is God’s way of being and doing right. By choosing Jesus as King, Lord, and God, we put Him first in everything. As we do, our lives will go right even when things seem to go wrong. Then, all we need will be provided.
Seek the King and His kingdom, and Jesus will make sure to give us all we could ever need, desire, dream, or want. When we put God first, we never lack for anything.
