Thoughts on Gifts
I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. I Corinthians 1:4-9 (New International Version, NIV)
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; Romans 1:11 (KJV)
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, Romans 12:6 (KJV)
I was thinking about how God has gifted each of us. It can show up at an early age. Just watch a child and see what he acts out or pretends he is. Listen to what he says he wants to be. The Bible says to train up a child in the way they should go and when they are older they won’t depart from it. We all have a bent, or a certain thing or things that we lean towards. We need to grow in that bent, in the area in which God has gifted us and drawn us.
God gives each person as a gift to the world. Each person has gifts within himself or herself. Some don’t know that they are to use their gifts for God. Perhaps they were never taught to do so. Even if they use their gifts for the wrong purposes, they are still gifted to be and do what God has made them to be and do. We must help people discover that they are a gift, and then help them to discover and develop the gifts God has given them.
It is up to each of us as to how we use our gifts; for ourselves, for the devil, or for God. Gifts are given to help and bless people and bring glory to God. Gifts are not given to harm or hurt anyone. God, Who is the greatest Gift Himself, gives good gifts to all. What we do with our lives is our gift to God. How we use our gifts will affect who we become, what we do in life, and the impact we make on the world.
We need to make a positive impact so people will know we’ve been here. Before we leave, we need to impart our gifts to others, so they can carry on what we began. Don’t let your gifts die with you. After you are gone, your gifts can live on in others. God has gifted us to bless others and to pass the gift on to them so God is continually glorified.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17 (KJV)
Keep in mind that your identity as a gift is more important than the gifts you have. Be the best you can be as the gift God is giving to the world. Do your best with the gifts He has given you. God is the ultimate Gift and He gives good gifts to all. Glorify the Gift with yourself and your gifts.
