Silence Is Not An Option

When the enemy attacks, we are to resist. We are not sit idly by and let him run roughshod over us. We have the authority to push him back and cast him out. These verses show us that Jesus has all authority and that whatever Jesus has been given is also given to us, His joint heirs.

Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

And if [we are His] children, [then we are His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His spiritual blessing and inheritance], Romans 8:17 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

If we believe these truths, then we know that when the enemy attacks us, we need not sit still and let him do whatever he wants. We are not powerless against him. However, when we keep our mouths shut and say nothing, he is given free reign to do his will. Instead, we are to fight the good fight.

Our weapon is in our words; the words that come out of our mouths in faith and power. We cannot be silent and expect to win. We must grab hold of and swing the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). However, many of us think that just remaining quiet and calm will win the war. That is not true. We don’t have to panic or be in fear, but we do have to fight with the Word.

When we see evil trying to rule in our government, we must use our words to speak forth its removal. When we see people trying to disrupt society with destruction and chaos, we can speak peace to the situation and the silencing of the mouth of the enemy. We can speak confusion into the enemy’s camp to cause division and ruin the devil’s plans. When we hear of viruses and contagious disease outbreaks, we can stop the plague with our mouths. The Word of God that rolls off our tongues can prevent tragedy and disaster. We can block the enemy from causing terrorist attacks, “natural” disasters, harmful weather events, etc. We can stop war by using the Word of God to prevent it. But, we must open our mouths to do so.

The days of being safe and secure inside our own four walls is over. The church is not immune to the devil’s attempts to steal, kill, and destroy- unless we use the authority we have in our mouths.

We can halt the enemy’s advance in our lives and the lives of family, friends, neighbors, as well as in our cities, and nations. Even if we don’t know of anyone else standing up to satan, we can do it on our own- because we have God on our side to back up His Word as we speak it forth. The Bible is full of examples of just one person who made the difference, like Noah, Joseph, Moses, Esther, Elijah, and many more. We don’t have to be scared for our health, our wealth, or our safety. Speak the Word of God and keep speaking it. We must continually be on guard and on the offensive. In the world of sports, it has been said that the best offense is a good defense. However, I believe in the war between good and evil, the best defense is a good offense. When we stay on the offensive against the devil, he can’t even begin to advance against us. Coming against him verbally before he even gets a good start is the best defense. So, a good offense really is the best defense against him.

At the very first sign of trouble, begin to speak the Word. Even better, speak the Word all the time- even when there is no sign of trouble. When we continually speak the Word over ourselves, our families, communities, and nations, we are ahead of the enemy’s game and we build up a huge wall of protection against his attacks.

Silence is not an option for the believer. We must use our mouths to enforce the victory Jesus purchased for us. Open your mouth and send the enemy on the run!
