Relax; Don't Worry About It

Relax; Don't Worry About It

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Why are you beating your head against a wall trying to figure things out? Why you are wasting time, energy, and effort in fretting over circumstances? This passage tells us that we can trust God to lead us and He will make things right for us.

Real faith rests. When we put our trust in God and refuse to worry or think on problems, we are acting in faith. Faith does not give the problem to God and then continue to try to figure a way out. When we give something to God, we do not have to bother with it anymore. I know it sounds strange to some, but worrying is not a way of showing responsibility. It shows lack of faith in God. Doubt worries, but faith rests. Our fretting does not fix anything, and it hinders God from helping us.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:31-34 (New Living Translation, NLT)

There is no profit to be found in dwelling on an issue that we are unable to solve. God will show us the way out of trouble, but we have to sit back and relax first. Worry and fear are in direct opposition to faith. Faith can’t work in an atmosphere of unbelief. We must remain single-minded, not wavering in our trust in God. Refuse to think about the problems that you’ve given to the Lord. If He tells you to do something, by all means be obedient and do it, but don’t sit around and think about your problems.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:6-8 (KJV)

This is especially well-stated in the Message paraphrase:

Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open. James 1:6-8 (The Message, MSG) emphasis mine

So, my friend, do you have a problem that you cant seem to fix? Give it to God. Ask Him to take care of it for you. Then, relax and don’t worry about it. That’s called faith.
